The surf is up... even on days when the sun is not on Ireland's North Coast!
Surfing is an ideal sport for Irish weather and the North Coast is great for all watersports. The area has several Blue Flag beaches, and surfing is becoming one of the most popular water sports with waves in excess of 10ft in the winter and up to around 6ft in the summer.
All along the North Coast of Ireland you'll find beaches offering surfing conditions to suit everyone from beginners to advanced levels. Portrush and Portstewart alone offer about a half dozen excellent SURF SPOTS, but travel along the coast a little further to Portballintrae and further into Moyle and Ballycastle area and you will find coves, bays and beaches waiting to be surfed! Likewise travel west from Portrush towards Castlerock, Downhill and Benone for a variety of swell and in Autumn, when the surf is usually at it's best, you'll often find you have the waves to yourself and your board!
Whether you and your family would like to learn to surf with one of the qualified SURF SCHOOLS located along the North Coast, or you are a competent surfer looking to experience a tranquil shore break, the North Coast offers something for everyone.
The new NORTH COAST WATER SPORTS CENTRE opened at Portrush East Strand in Summer 2007 and is used for a wide range of sea and coastal related activities, including surfing, bodyboarding, sea kayaking, surf kayaking, wind surfing, sub aqua and sea angling.
