Waterskiing

Location: Coleraine


There are a number of clubs within the North Coast where waterskiing can be enjoyed by beginners through to advanced skiers. These clubs will provide tuition, equipment and changing/shower facilities.

Waterskiing:

  • Most waterskiing is carried out in zoned area.
  • Water ski clubs will hire equipment to visitors.  Please check in advance as clubs will have varying ranges of equipment for hire.
  • When skiing with a club or water sports centre, you will be covered by their insurance.
  • There is no age restriction and no insurance or qualification is required to launch and drive a motor boat on rivers and loughs in Northern Ireland.  However please observe by-laws, be considerate to other water users and above all be sensible and safe.
  • As with all water sports, there is an element of danger.  Please ensure that you are suitably fit before embarking on a physical activity and observe the advice of your instructor.

 Suitable Locations

 Zoning is in place on the Lower Bann:

  • Bann Estuary zone – extends north of Coleraine Marina to south of downstream marker at Crannagh Pier.
  • LoughanIsland zone – extends south of Loughan Island to Drumaheglis.

Slipways on Lower Bann

  • North of Seaton’s Marina slipway and jetty – located outside northern limit of Bann Estuary ski zone on eastern shore (for Bann Estuary water ski zone)
  • Coleraine Marina slipway – located outside southern limit of Bann Estuary zone on eastern shore (between Bann Estuary water ski zone and Loughan Island water ski zone)
  • Somerset canoe steps and jetty - located south of Mountsandel jetty on western shore
  • Camuscanoe steps and jetty – located north of Loughan Island at northern limit of Loughan Island ski zone, on western shore
  • Movanager Wood jetty – located north of Portneal Lodge on western shore (between Portna lock to the south and Movanager Lock to the north)
