Downhill Beach

Location: Castlerock, BT51 4RP


SEACOAST ROAD, DOWNHILL

Owned and managed by Coleraine Borough Council, Downhill Beach is separated from Benone Beach by the Umbra burn, a shallow channel crossable by vehicle at low tide where it enters the sea.

PICTURE

After White Park Bay, Downhill Strand is probably one of the most photographed beaches on the North Coast because of the famous Mussenden Temple and has featured in many television and film dramas. Both Downhill and Benone are popular with sea anglers who run a number of annual competitions. See our What's On section for angling events.

Access: From under railway line at Downhill and from Benone across the Umbra burn. (difficult in high tides and heavy rainfall). Cars are permitted (excluding quad bikes and scramblers). Limavady PSNI patrol both beaches during the visitor season.
