Bovevagh Old Church

The ruins of Bovevagh Church, located just off B192 on Bovevagh Road, near the villages of Burnfoot and Gortnahey, is commonly interpreted as deriving from Maeve’s Church.  A monastery built to replace the original wooden structure burnt in 1100 was in ruins by 1622.  Rebuilt to serve as the parish church until the early 19th century, it was ruinous again by 1806.  It contains a mortuary house, thought to house the remains of St Ringan.  Interpretation is available at the site.
