Monster Energy Portrush Open Surf Competition CANCELLED

10-11 Apr 2010

Location: Portrush

Event Type: Sport & Active Leisure

The Monster Energy Portrush Open Surf Championships CANCELLED

The Monster Energy Portrush Open 2010 is being postponed until 22-23rd May.

Following a final check of north coast beaches early this morning and reviewing the swell forecast for the next two days, contest organisers have agreed that wave height will be below the European standard for contestable surf.

The Dub Surf classic VW rally scheduled for Sunday 11th April, will now be showcased on the 23rd May to coincide with the re-scheduled surf contest.

Surfers and organisers are disappointed that the surf contest has had to be postponed, however with over 100 of Ireland's top competitors expected to attend the contest it was decided to move the contest to May to allow for more favourable conditions and better surf.

We also now have the prospect of a hugely exciting May in store for the North Coast in terms of spectacular outdoor events; with the North West 200 on the 15th May, then the Monster Energy Portrush Open on the 22nd & 23rd May and the Portrush Raft Race the following weekend.

The additional evening entertainment scheduled for this weekend in the Portrush Playhouse will still go ahead a planned and visitors to the area can enjoy not only the great Spring weather and beaches but excellent night time music.

.

International award winning Irish surf movie WaveRiders will be screened in the Portrush Playhouse at 8.00 pm on Friday 9th April.

Music lovers are set to enjoy a great Saturday evening line up in the Playhouse with aclaimed DJ Woody Madera, as well as local band Team Fresh and local DJs.

The Portrush Open organisers, the Causeway Coast Surf Club, would like to thank all our sponsors and trust we will all be back together for a fantastic surf contest in May.
