A unique fusion of landscape, music, historic heritage and visual art, this is a recital of piano music accompanied by projections of accompanying photographs.
‘Causeway Coast Fantasy’, ‘The Nine Glens of Antrim’, ‘Puffin Island’, ‘Strangford Sketchbook’, are suites of atmospheric piano music written by the talented Northern Irish composer, June Armstrong.
The works are inspired by the landscape of Northern Ireland, its historic buildings and its wildlife. The photography by Art Ward that accompanies the performance, is a visual expression of the music, and the two combine to create a unique fusion.
Whilst the music is ‘classical’, it is atmospheric and programmatic, some of it with a Celtic flavour and easily accessible to the listener.
June’s compositions will be performed by Deborah Henry. Born in Co. Down, Deborah began her piano studies at age five. By the time she was 17, she had achieved the Licentiate Diploma of the London College of Music, and in 2008 she graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Music Performance from the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Her professional career includes a long list of major piano awards and her abilities place her in great demand as a soloist, recording artist and accompanist.
Deborah brings sensitive and passionate interpretation to these works that transfer the visual magnificence of our local landscape to the beautiful voice of the piano.
Accompanying the music will be the stunning images of Art Ward, the Causeway Coast photographer whose work has been exhibited in Europe, Asia and the United States. Art has published two collections of landscape images and contributes regularly to newspapers and periodicals throughout the UK.
